Why this story matters

For many young people in Funtua and the surrounding communities, access to skills training and quality educational materials is limited by financial barriers. Without support, capable individuals are left without the tools to build a future, and communities lose the benefit of their potential. TGAS Foundation recognised that sustainable environmental change is only possible when communities are also economically empowered, and that investing in people is as important as planting trees.

What we did

TGAS Foundation supported 41 individuals across two parallel interventions. In schools, the foundation distributed 1,370 Greener Themed Exercise Books to 11 schools, using each visit as a platform for environmental education alongside the practical provision of materials students need. On the vocational side, TGAS supported beneficiaries through training at three institutions in Funtua: Bala Abdullahi College of Administration, where 16 individuals enrolled in computer studies; AD Saude ICT Academy, where 19 individuals trained in computer studies, tailoring, catering, beads and bed sheet making, industrial chemistry, shoe and bag making, and solar installation; and the School of Basic and Remedial Studies, where 6 individuals received training in the nursery and cultivation of tree seedlings, directly connecting vocational education to the foundation’s environmental mission.
