Environmental work does not happen in isolation from community life. The communities where TGAS Foundation operates face real, daily challenges that go beyond access to green spaces. Engaging communities on environmental action requires first being present in their lives, earning trust and demonstrating that the foundation cares about people as much as it does about trees. TGAS made a deliberate choice to show up for the communities it works with in ways that go
beyond its primary programme focus.
TGAS Foundation engaged communities in Jabiri, Maigamji, Zamfarawa and Funtua through a range of activities designed to support community wellbeing and build lasting relationships. The foundation organised Ramadan and Lent feeding programmes at correctional centres in Funtua (Katsina State), Suleja (Niger State) and Sabon Gari, Kano, reaching inmates during significant periods of the calendar. In Jabiri, TGAS supported a community football event and organised environmental sanitation activities. The foundation also distributed 150 security kits, each containing a torchlight, raincoat and protective footwear, to community members in Funtua, Katsina State.
