Overview of the Initiative

The “Grow Them Right (GTR)” initiative aims to produce and distribute 100,000 exercise books to schools across Nigeria. These books will feature greenery-themed covers and images to inspire students to embrace tree planting from a young age.

Objectives:

  • To promote environmental awareness among young students.
  • To instill a culture of tree planting and sustainability in schools.

Statement of the Problem

A lack of environmental consciousness among young students leads to inadequate efforts towards climate action and sustainability.

  • Environmental Issues: Many students are not exposed to sustainability concepts early enough.
  • Social Issues: Schools do not actively engage students in ecological balance and environmental stewardship programs.

Proposed Solution

Our initiative provides targeted solutions designed to integrate environmental consciousness into students’ daily learning experience through engaging materials and school programs.

  • Approach: Design and produce exercise books with greenery-themed messages.
  • Strategies: Partner with schools to distribute these books and establish Green Clubs and quarterly symposiums to discuss climate issues.
  • Activities:
    • Liaise with school authorities to establish Green Clubs.
    • Conduct green advocacy campaigns.
    • Organize symposiums to educate students on climate action.

Expected Impact

By integrating environmental themes into school materials, we aim to build a generation of students who are more conscious of sustainability.

  • Impact on Communities: Increased environmental awareness and active participation of students in tree planting and sustainability practices.
  • Language Preservation:
    • Bilingual Exercise Books: Design and distribute exercise books that feature content in both English and local languages, including proverbs, short stories, and environmental tips.
    • Cultural Workshops: Organize workshops where students learn about the importance of their native languages and engage in storytelling, traditional songs, and writing activities.
  • Environmental Impact: Encouraging a culture of sustainability and tree planting among students.

Success Metrics and Progress

To measure the success of this initiative, we will track progress using the following indicators:

  • Number of exercise books distributed.
  • Number of Green Clubs established.
  • Number of students participating in symposiums.
  • Regular progress reports on Green Club activities.
