Impact Must Be Measured. Not Assumed

Table of Contents

We talk a lot about impact. But a story is not evidence. Impact that cannot be measured is only a promise.

Counting activity is easy. Counting change is hard.

A tree planting event happened. Two hundred people showed up. Fifty trees went into the ground. These numbers tell us what we did, not what changed.

Are those fifty trees still alive six months later? Did the students at a Green Club session actually change how they use water or waste? Did the community carry the support forward on its own?

Without tracking, good work becomes a series of moments instead of lasting change.

Accountability is honesty, not performance

Tracking outcomes is not just for donor reports. It is how we learn what actually works, which planting sites succeed, which schools need more follow up, where our assumptions were wrong.

That honesty builds programmes that genuinely serve communities, not ones that just look good on paper.

What it takes

Before a project starts, we define what success looks like. During implementation, we check in consistently. After it ends, we look honestly at the results, including the ones that fall short.

It is also a form of respect

Every community, school and partner gives us their time and trust. Measuring outcomes honestly is how we honour that. Sustainability is a pattern that holds over time, and the only way to know if it is holding is to track it.

That is where real impact is built.
